The Benefits Specialist plays a vital role in supporting both employees and leadership by administering and managing a wide range of employee benefit programs both insurance and non-insurance related. This position provides day-to-day guidance and support, ensuring employees understand their benefits and feel confident navigating them.

You will also help ensure our benefits programs comply with all federal and state regulations, including ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and Section 125. Whether it’s onboarding a new hire, assisting with a leave of absence, troubleshooting claims, or helping with audits, you’ll be the friendly expert our team relies on.

Responsibilities

As a Benefits Specialist, here’s a big-picture view of what you’ll do:
Administer Company Insurance plan
- College degree OR at least 3 years of HR, benefits, or insurance-related experience.
- Guide new hires through benefit enrollments and answer benefit-related questions
- Manage ongoing benefit changes and annual open enrollment
- Audit monthly benefit bills and ensure accuracy

Employee Data Tracking & Compliance
- Maintain and manage employee records (hire dates, benefits, evaluations, etc.)
- Ensure accurate Affordable Care Act (ACA) tracking and reporting
- Partner with payroll to confirm benefit deductions and reconciliations
- Administer COBRA, HIPAA, and Section 125 compliance

Leave & Workers’ Compensation
- Oversee FMLA, disability, military, and personal leave programs
- Manage Workers’ Compensation claims from start to resolution
- Serve as a caring point of contact for employees navigating time away

Team Player in HR
- Assist with HR initiatives and trainings
- Help onboard new hires
- Stay current with employment laws related to benefits
- Collaborate with your HR teammates to keep things running smoothly

Skills & Qualifications

A few must-haves for our Benefits Specialist:
  • College degree OR at least 3 years of HR, benefits, or insurance-related experience.
  • Strong administrative and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Ability to interpret benefit policies and explain them clearly to employees.
  • Familiarity with ACA, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, and workers’ comp procedures.
  • Bonus: SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification.
